State Tax Filing Deadlines for 2019 Returns

Have you filed your 2019 state tax return? Below is some helpful information for a few states that did not follow the federal return deadline change to July 15, 2020.

  • Virginia's filing deadline was actually May 1, with payment due by June 1, 2020. Virginia has implemented an automatic six month extension for filing returns, but you still need to pay taxes owed as soon as possible. Payment is still due today, June 1, 2020, in order to avoid any penalties or interest.

  • As of June 1, 2020, Idaho state tax filing deadline and payment due date is June 15, 2020.

  • Even as late as May 1, Mississippi was the only state to have a deadline of May 15, but this has recently been pushed to July 15, 2020 for both filing and payment. Click here for more information.

  • While Tennessee and New Hampshire do not have income tax, they do require returns for dividends and interest to be filed by July 15, 2020. Alaska, Texas, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Washington, and Wyoming also do not have state income tax.
